Healthy Recipes
The healthy recipes at Ambrolio Foods feature a diet of fresh, real foods that include lean sources of protein, whole grains, legumes, nuts, seeds, seasonal fruits and vegetables.
Our healthy recipes start with breakfast, an important meal that provides the necessary energy to sustain you throughout the morning. We recommend whole grains such as steel cut oats, nuts, and fruit to begin your day. These food groups represent good sources of complex carbohydrates, plant protein, fiber, and Vitamin C, as well as other necessary nutrients.
For lunch and dinner, we suggest a minimal intake of animal protein in favor of plant protein. This means eating more whole grains, nuts, and legumes (lentils and beans) and less meat, poultry and dairy.
When including meat recipes, we focus mostly on lean cuts of beef and chicken. We strongly recommend buying grass-fed beef, and organic poultry whenever possible. In addition, we prefer organic, low fat dairy products in limited quantities.
Buying organic ensures that the livestock:
1) Is not treated with antibiotics
2) Does not have injections of natural or artificial growth hormones, or the synthetic hormone rBST
3) Does not eat a feed mixture that contains antibiotics or genetically modified organisms.
As for cooking entrees or sautéing vegetables, we highly recommend using extra virgin olive oil. However, when the temperature is above 375° F, we recommend an alternative oil that has a high smoke point.
In our healthy recipes collection, you’ll find several ideas for fresh vegetables and fruits. These foods provide much needed fiber and valuable nutrients. The key to great tasting fruits and vegetables is to buy in season, and to buy locally, if possible.
For special occasions and treats, we feature homemade desserts. In keeping with our healthy recipe theme, we have minimized the quantity of fat and sugar while not compromising taste.
